Dear colleagues,the upcoming semester is almost here and as zoom meetings will be on all our agendas again, we want to meet on Thursday, 30 September at 6pm, for a get-together in person at Café Diglas in Schottenstift. We made a reservation in a more private area upstairs! Here, we would like to present the programme with important topics we would like to discuss:
1. Round of exchange
How are you doing dissertation wise? What challenges do you face right now? Did you conduct research over the summer? What goals do you have for upcoming semester?
2. Interdisciplinary courses
Do you have experience or recommendations you want to share? Do you have experience with the acknowledgement of courses or events (course work, participation in and presentation at conferences, summer school, language course, etc.) also outside of the University of Vienna?
3. The Doctoral School and the 3-class-PhD-system
Even though all PhD students at the University of Vienna have to deliver the equivalent performance, experience the same pressure in academia and contribute with one’s research project to the international reputation of the university, disparities concerning a 3-class-doctorate-systems become even more visible. How do you think about the doctoral school’s responsibility regarding this problem? How can those students get support, who are not holding fully funded positions? How can those benefit from the promises and opportunities of the Doctoral School, who are not able to be part of it and on this ground, get excluded from the participation in interdisciplinary courses and the opportunity to present one’s research on the final colloquium?
4. UG-Novelle
How do you cope with this uncertainty? What kind of possibilities do you have to get active?
5. Announcement: “akademisches Viertel” at Heuriger
“Sturmzeit is!” – join us on Sunday, 17 October, for a visit to a Heuriger to get to know each other better and to strengthen our network! Please email us to register by 12 October.
6. Space for your issues, wishes, ideas
