About this Event
Pharoah Sanders Tribute Honors Spiritual Jazz Legacy at Aretha's Jazz Café in the Music Hall ft.
Detroit, MI — May 11, 2026 — The Preservation of Jazz proudly presents a deeply moving tribute to the legendary saxophonist and spiritual jazz pioneer Pharoah Sanders on Monday, May 11, 2026, at Aretha's Jazz Café.
This special evening features Detroit jazz luminaries Wendell Harrison and Pamela Wise Harrison, whose artistry and legacy embody the very spirit of the music Pharoah Sanders championed—music rooted in freedom, healing, and transcendence.
Known for his groundbreaking work alongside John Coltrane and his own revolutionary recordings, Pharoah Sanders reshaped jazz by infusing it with spirituality, African rhythms, and deep emotional expression. This tribute honors not only his sound, but his message—music as prayer, meditation, and liberation.
Audiences can expect an immersive evening of improvisation, spiritual exploration, and reverence for one of jazz’s most fearless voices.
