About this Event
This sponsored event has been developed, organised, and funded by the Boehringer Ingelheim and Lilly Diabetes Alliance and will take place Face to Face at Hatfeild Hall, Aberford Road, Wakefield WF34JP
This session is suitable for all Nurses and HCAs, whether new to T2 diabetes or needing a refresher.
Please Note This Session will be split over 4 days , when booking you are committing to attending ALL 4 dates.

Neva Ferguson - Medical Education associate lead will be delivering all of the session with the support of Helen Dobson lead DSN mid yorks.

- Introducing CRM: the relationship between cardiovascular, renal, and metabolic systems in type 2 diabetes.
- Oral therapies for patients with type 2 diabetes.
- Practical use of oral therapies in type 2 diabetes: Evaluating treatment options.

Day 2 Agenda - Incretin Therapies – Wednesday 25th September

Day 3 Agenda - Topical Insulin Part 1 - Wednesday 16th October
A fternoon - 12.30pm - 4.30pm
Reflecting on physiological and emotional aspects of therapy.
- To understand the normal physiology of insulin and glucagon.
- To explore the pathophysiology of type 2 diabetes and potential progression to insulin therapy.
- To be able to identify which people would benefit from insulin therapy.
- To identify national and local guidelines and pivotal trials for the treatment of type 2 diabetes.
- To appreciate the importance of assessing psychological well being.

Considerations for insulin therapy.
- To understand the differences between human, analogue, and biosimilar insulins.
- To understand the variety of insulins available and their associated profiles.
- To discover the appropriate rationale for choosing an insulin type and regimen.

- To bring theory to life through case studies.

Moving from Basal insulin
- To identify when it is time to move from once daily basal insulin.
- To explore local and national guidelines.
- To explore insulin intensification options.

Life on Insulin Therapy
- To clarify the correct injection technique and understand the impact of lipohypertrophy.
- To recognise and understand the lifestyle factors that affect the management of insulin.
- To have the ability to effectively support people with diabetes on insulin therapy in managing these factors.
