9 AM—Mike Aday is the librarian-archivist at Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
He will highlight the resources available to the public (by appointment) at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park Collections Preservation Center located in Townsend, TN. The facility houses the historical items, documents, photos, land deeds and family lineages associated with the creation of the national park. As families moved from ancestral homes to make way for the park, these invaluable documents can help fill in gaps during an integral time in East Tennessee and North Carolina.
10 AM—Ann Blomquist is an administrator at the East TN Historical Society.
She will teach about the new search method of Full Text Search at FamilySearch.org, which reads and transcribes unindexed handwritten records! The East TN Historical Society in Knoxville has been granting certificates for First Families of TN for 30 years, but the Society has recently has made available 4 new certificate categories. They will be explained and sample applications will be shown.
11 AM—Marcia Nelson, director of PFPL, will present new ideas for preserving your family memories.
11:30 AM—Christina Wolfenbarger, our historian, will share the library's genealogical and historical resources.
12-12:45 PM—Lunch
12:45-1:15 PM—Genealogy room tour and Smoky Mountain Collection and oral history showcase.
