Join us on September 23 from 6:00–7:30 p.m. for a book talk with Dr. Lisa Barnett, AssociateProfessor of American Religious History at Phillips Theological Seminary, on her new work, Peyote Politics: The Making of the Native American Church, 1880–1937 (University of Oklahoma Press, 2025). Barnett explores the rise of Peyotism, the struggles over its legitimacy, and how the Native American Church shaped new understandings of religious freedom, Native identity, and citizenship in the United States.
PLEASE NOTE: This event will be held at the Helmerich Center for American Research, located next to the Gilcrease Museum, which is currently closed for construction. Free Parking will be available.
