Sunday December 8th CDZ Collegium Musica is holding its Season of Lights FREE Holiday Community Concert.
A Celebration of Light and Love
Peter Zisa classical guitar; Oregon Jazz Hall of Fame Vocalist Shirley Nanette; Portland Shishimai Kai; Thousand Waves (koto flute & guitar); Gabriela and Peter Guitar and Flute Duo (Brazilian music); Sarah Faux vocalist (Gregorian Chant and Sheep May Safely Graze BWV 208)
Program includes Chanukah and Christmas music
SOL mission is to provide a meaningful and unifying celebration of the holiday season that all the members of the community can attend and enjoy. The spiritual theme of the program is peace goodwill and loving kindness. Drawing from the four corners of the Portland metro the program and its featured artists represent a collage of the cultural and faith traditions of the community. In the spirit of unity and goodwill the program invites all in attendance to give generously to community charities: Catholic Charity and Jewish Family and Child Services which provide aid and assistance to the needs of those needing food shelter and counseling.
This year's program features seasonal traditional contemporary music from Japan Ukraine Middle East Brazil and Americas; that is everything from plainchant to Jazz. Joining Peter on the program is Jazz Hall of Fame vocalist Shirley Nanette and pianist Vince Frates Portland Shishimai Kai (Traditional Lion Dance) company Cantor Sarah Faux performing Gregorian chant and Bach's Sleepers Awake Grace and Lucy Flowerday performing Tedesco's Fantasia for guitar and piano Brazilian flutist Gabriela Gimenes Thousand Waves (koto flute and guitar). This is a program for the entire family.
