A talk held as part of Samesame but Different - a festival celebrating queer readers and writers in Aotearoa.
essa may ranapiri (Ngaati Wehi Wehi, Ngaati Raukawa-ki-te-Tonga, Te Arawa, Ngaati Pukeko, Ngaati Takatāpui, Clan Gunn) will be exploring creative expressions of the atua Hinemoana by takataapui Maaori writers – including their own work, but also that of Elizabeth Kerekere, Sinead Overbye, Michelle Rahurahu, Stacey Teague and others. The lecture will focus on the importance of atuatanga to queer Maaori and finding our place in te ao. As our understanding of ourselves changes so too should our understanding of atua evolve.
Free to attend, all welcome!
Named in memory of the festival’s late founder, writer and activist Peter Wells, the lecture is a provocation centred on our broad theme of QUEEREVOLUTION - challenge and change, empowerment and inspiration on the personal, community and, of course, creative levels.
This event is part of the 2023 Auckland Pride Festival. See the full programme at aucklandpride.org.nz.
