About this Event
Peter Hitchens is a Conservative author, broadcaster, journalist and commentator. He currently writes for The Mail on Sunday and was a foreign correspondent reporting from Moscow and Washington DC. Hitchens has also contributed to The Sepctator The Gaurdian and New Statesman.
Hithcens read Philosophy and Politics at the University of York, before starting his career in journalism. He rose to be deputy political editor at the Daily Express, before moving to cover defence and diplomatic affairs, reporting on the decline and collapse of Warsaw Pact countries and eventually becoming a Moscow correspondent. Returning to the UK in 1995, he became a columnist and commentator. Hitchens left the Daily Express in 200, moving to The Mail on Sunday. After being shortlisted in 2007 and 2009, Hitchens won the Orwell Prize in political journalism in 2010.
He is the author of many books, including: ‘The Abolition of Britain’ - which was critical of the changes in British society since the 1960s - ‘The Broken Compass: How British Politics Lost its Way’, ‘The Rage Against God’ and ‘The Phoney Victory’.
Hitchens is a Conservative, and critical of the UK Conservative Party. He advocates conservative Christian political views, including opposition to the introduction of same-sex marriage and support of stricter drugs policy. He is also in favour of capital punishment in principle.
