About this Event
RESPONSIVE EYE, a collection of Burr’s recent mixed reality artwork, will be exhibited at ONX STUDIO in New York from May 12 - 15. The opening reception on Thursday, May 12, 6 – 9 PM will celebrate the launch of the RESPONSIVE EYE exhibition catalog alongside the work’s New York premiere.
Peter Burr’s solo show, Responsive Eye, takes its title from an exhibition of Minimalism and Op-Art, which debuted at MoMA in 1965. The works in his show of animation, augmented reality, video game, and computer-generated art draw heavily from the color fields and austere geometries of these 20th-Century artistic movements, but invest their formal perceptual experiments with narrative and conceptual content. He creates candy-colored abstractions of digital culture as a means of exploring the dissonant contradictions, ecstatic visceral enjoyments, and annihilating self-destruction of our contemporary life on the grid. This body of work premiered at the height of the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic at Telematic Media Arts in San Francisco. This New York exhibition features 4 works from this inaugural show, presented on the occasion of the launch of the Responsive Eye exhibition catalog designed by Eric Timothy Carlson.
The opening reception on May 12 will also feature an hour-long screening of Burr’s recent films. Seating is limited.
Exhibition Dates: May 12, 2022 - May 15, 2022
Open Hours: Friday - Sunday, 12 – 6 PM
