Pete Roth Trio started as a rehearsal band, something for some friends to explore the edges of “interactive music” - towards the more experimental end of Jazz. They've now left the rehearsal room, blinking in the sunlight, ready to bring new music to those wanting to hear it.
Following a few festival appearances, and a short tour in 2024, 2025 brings the trio further afield. We're thrilled to have them come to The Lantern Theatre!
The band comprises Pete Roth's fluid guitar playing, Mike Pratt's incisive bass, and the recently un-retired Bill Bruford, returning to active service in a live environment after a 15 year hiatus.
Bill has always been chipping away at the edges of what ensemble music can be, whether with Yes, culminating in the astonishing Close To The Edge album; multiple stints with King Crimson, bringing us various explosive percussion setups and deployments of cutting-edge electronic kits; or solo work including the hugely influential One Of A Kind album and the long-running, shapeshifting Earthworks jazz group, not to mention the collaborative duos with Patrick Moraz and Michiel Borstlap, and countless other projects.
The Pete Roth Trio enables Bill to pick up where he left off, pushing the boundaries, teasing out what can be done with a few bits of wood, string, and plastic, along with an infectious love of musical exploration.
