Explore the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway with a botanizing bike ride including a stop at Naval Cemetery Landscape. Bring your own bike!
About this Event

Brooklyn Greenway Initiative and the New York Flora Association are hosting a Petal Pedal this summer! Join us for a bike ride where we'll stop and take a look at the green in the greenway!
Clara Holmes will lead this biking outing along the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway. Starting at Pier 6 in Dumbo and ending at the Bushwick Inlet, stopping at the Naval Cemetery Landscape and perhaps other places where plants may catch our attention, where you'll identify living specimens at each location with the group.

Whether you're a biker, a greenway user, a nature lover, or aspiring botanist, this ride will deepen your appreciation for the plant world around you. Note that this is approximately a 5 mile route and that there will be frequent stops to botanize.

Please note that a donation is required to purchase a ticket on eventbrite for this event- to support NYFA and BGI's work and to encourage attendance. If something comes up and you can no longer make it to the event please cancel your registration as this event has limited capacity. Choose your donation amount and then you will be able to add your ticket on the registration page.

Class Instructor:
Clara Holmes has over a decade of experience in plant community monitoring and
conservation, restoration planning, and project management. As a Plant Ecologist with
NYC Parks, she helps manage large scale restoration projects, monitors saltmarshes,
tracks rare and locally sensitive plant species, and reviews planting palettes for
restoration and construction projects. Prior to working with NYC Parks, she managed
seed collection projects for restoration throughout the mid-Atlantic region as the Seed
Collection Coordinator for the Mid-Atlantic Regional Seed Bank. She holds an MS from
Pace University and BA from the College of Charleston. She is also an avid runner that
makes frequent use of Brooklyn’s greenways!

Please note: there is no indoor space and limited shade at the Naval Cemetery Landscape- please wear sunscreen and/or a sun hat and bring a water bottle (water refill station available at the Naval Cemetery Landscape).

Location

We will meet at Pier 6 in Brooklyn Bridge Park and bike together to the Naval Cemetery Landscape, and then to our final location at Bushwick Inlet Park

About The Naval Cemetery Landscape:

Before or after this event, speak to BGI gardeners and learn about the Naval Cemetery Landscape (NCL) and the Greenway and what goes into maintaining their beauty and accessibility for everyone! The Naval Cemetery Landscape is fully operated, made open as a public space and able to provide free public programs like this solely by Brooklyn Greenway Initiative through the generosity of our supporters.
