The 22nd of January marks 14 years since Heath Ledger passed away. In honour of Heath, The Backlot Perth in partnership with Beyond Skate are hosting the inaugural Perth Skate Film Festival on Sunday the 27th of February from 12-5pm. Mat de Koning will be premiering a series of new film works he shot throughout Barcelona, Vancouver, San Francisco and Los Angeles. We’ll also be screening the new Beyond Skate video ‘Porcelain’ by Jack Morellini followed by various other Perth skate films.
After the intermission, we’ll be watching Heath play Skip Engblom in Lords of Downtown, all in the comfort of the plush Backlot Cinema with drinks available at the bar. All proceeds going to the Heath Ledger Scholarship!
Lords of Dogtown
A drought in 1970s Southern California has an unexpected side effect: as people empty their swimming pools, a group of teen surfers from the Dogtown area of Venice Beach move in with skateboards, and a new sport is born. Based on a true story, this film follows "Z-Boys" skate team members Stacy Peralta (John Robinson), Tony Alva (Victor Rasuk) and Jay Adams (Emile Hirsch), plus manager Skip Engblom (Heath Ledger), as their fearless "pool surfing" leads to fame, fortune -- and misfortune.
