Perspectives on the Tree Canopy in Columbus's Underserved Communities
About this Event
A robust tree canopy provides more than shade and beauty for urban neighborhoods. The protective benefits of a dense canopy extend to the community’s mental wellbeing, physical health and resilience to climate change.
Dr. Darryl B. Hood, a nationally recognized environmental public health neurotoxicologist and environmental justice expert at The Ohio State University, will lead a discussion titled, “Perspectives on the Urban Tree Canopy in Underserved Communities in Columbus,” at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14 at the Columbus Park of Roses shelter house.
Columbus City Council member Nancy Day-Achauer will provide opening remarks and introduce the panelists, who include The Ohio State University’s Dr. Hood, Dr. Kelsea Best, Dr. Daniel Gingerich and Karima Samadi.
This panel discussion is being hosted by the Northview Buckeye Garden Club as part of a $4,500 Plant for the Future grant it received from Garden Club of Ohio to plant native trees and shrubs at Columbus’ Maloney Park, and to provide education on the importance of tree canopies to communities’ wellbeing.
