Person Place Thing with Randy Cohen & DOT Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez

On September 9th, the NYC Department of Records & Information Services will welcome the Department of Transportation Commissioner, Ydanis Rodriguez, for a live recording of Person Place Thing with Emmy Award winner, Randy Cohen.

Person Place Thing is an interview show based on the idea that people are especially engaging when they speak, not directly about themselves, but about something they care about. Guests share a person, place, and thing they find meaningful. The result: surprising stories from great talkers.

Speakers:

Randy Cohen is a writer, radio host, and humorist known for his work as the author of The Ethicist column in The New York Times Magazine. He also authors humor pieces, essays, and stories for publications and newspapers worldwide such as The New Yorker, Harpers, the Atlantic, and Young Love Comics.

Ydanis Rodriguez is the Commissioner of the New York City Department of Transportation, appointed by Mayor Eric Adams in December 2021. He oversees more than 5,500 employees, a $1.4 billion annual operating budget, and a 10-year capital budget of $33 billion. He is the first Latino and only the second person of color to serve in this role.

As Commissioner, he has led major initiatives including nearly $1 billion in added investment to the Streets Master Plan, a citywide effort to redesign 1,000 intersections, and a successful campaign to expand NYC DOT’s speed camera program to 24/7 operation.

Previously, Rodriguez served on the New York City Council representing the 10th District, which includes Washington Heights, Inwood, and Marble Hill. Earlier in his career, he taught in NYC public schools for over 15 years and co-founded two schools: Gregorio Luperon High School for newly arrived immigrants from Latin America and the Community Health Academy of the Heights, serving grades 6–12.
