Permaculture is based on a respect for nature and her processes. This outlook was first embodied in indigenous practices and continues to be confirmed with new discoveries and research. We'll discuss when and how permaculture theory began, why it is both amazing and crucial, how to get started, and useful techniques. There is not a 'one size fits all' approach; each site is different, as is each gardener. However, care of the soil is always fundamental. Finally, after discussing and looking at examples, we'll have time for questions. Please bring your concerns so we can learn more together.
Laurie Lockwood has been gardening for 40 years, practicing permaculture for the last ten. She lives and gardens in Canterbury, with raised stone beds, a chicken flock, kiwi vines, pawpaw trees, and more. A more recent focus is planting more native species for wildlife of all kinds, while diligently removing the worst invasives. Sharing knowledge, nature, joy, and fresh food right out of the garden is why she's here!
