Perkins&Will Chicago Sustainable Development Policy Workshop
About this Event
The 2024 City of Chicago Sustainable Development Policy establishes new sustainability requirements
that influence how projects are designed, documented, and delivered. This workshop begins with an
overview of the policy, including applicability, point requirements, compliance documentation, and the
intent behind each major strategy. Participants will learn how to interpret the policy and identify which
requirements are relevant to their projects.
The hands-on portion of the workshop is divided into two workflow modules. The first demonstrates
advanced Revit techniques for modeling curtain wall systems with embedded performance data, including
shared parameters for calculating window-to-wall ratio (WWR), assigning bird protection, generating
orientation-based schedules, and creating quality assurance views for rapid design validation. The
second introduces a Grasshopper workflow for panelized façade systems on complex geometry, showing
how to automate panel classification, organize reporting by orientation and panel type, apply bird-safe frit
strategies, and rapidly evaluate design alternatives. By the end of the workshop, attendees will have
practiced reviewing policy goals, understanding the needed outcomes, and developing delivery strategies
for meeting those goals.
