A live performance and exhibition of the necessity for health resources for performers!
About this Event

For the past year, under the guidance of Andrea Leigh-Smith and Karen Hall, I have been researching mental, emotional, and physical health for performing artists. I knew that support was necessary, and I knew that most, if not all, of us have, are, or will struggle with our health at some point in our lives. However, for some reason, our profession is always overlooked as far as health resources go. What this project seeks to do is reduce the stigma of illness and injury in the performing arts, prove there is a need for support in our community, and find the most effective practices to maintain our well-beings in this industry. I hope that this project will demystify what self care and support looks like for all of us and inspire change within our community.

I believe that the most effective way to spark change is through telling your story. Because of that, this performance strives to put a face on the issue, and prove that with correct support, injury and illness do not have to be career-ending. Rather, it is a normal part of this profession.

Five current SU Drama students (Elana Babbitt, Jessica Cerreta, Gabriela Moncivais, Rileigh Very, and myself) will tell our stories on September 4th and perform in celebration of our recovery and our abilities! Please join us!!!!!
