Artist statement:

Nicole works across performance, video, and sculpture to explore the circulation of femininity within economies of desire, spectacle, and consumption. Drawing on personal memories and Latin American popular aesthetics, her work examines how the female body becomes a site where fantasy, value, and power intersect. Her performances are built from simple choreographies—reading, sitting, licking sweets, walking in heels—that transform everyday gestures into ritualized displays. Objects such as stilettos, lingerie, cosmetics, plastic packaging, and candy appear repeatedly, functioning as fetishized materials that reveal the intimate relationship between femininity and commodity culture. In works such as Represented and the ongoing series At Your Feet, the body becomes both surface and stage. Performers inhabit stylized roles that oscillate between glamour and absurdity, exposing the mechanisms through which desire and visibility are constructed. Rather than offering a distant critique, Nicole’s work acknowledges the seductive power of these sys-tems. Her performances move within the ambiguous space where empowerment and objectification, pleasure and control, coexist.

Bio:

Nicole (b. 1997, Quito, Ecuador) is a Paris-based interdisciplinary and conceptual artist whose work examines how the female body is constructed, displayed, and instrumentalized within systems of desire, value, and representation. Working across performance, video and installation, her practice engages with the aesthetics of advertising, eroticism, and the art market, often using stillness, staging, and theatrical poise to reveal the mechanics of the gaze.

Recent performances include Represented (Grand Palais, Art Basel Paris, 2025), her ongoing series At Your Feet (2025–) unfolds across multiple iterations; ; At Your Feet (Be Patient) in the Yes AI Can Festival in Rostock (2026), At Your Feet (Linger) in Paris Internationale (2025), At Your Feet (Stand By) at Marcelle Alix (2025), At Your Feet (Be Ready) at Shmorevaz (2025), and At Your Feet (Count the Days Until) at Bétonsalon (2025). Other performances include, Bonita Bonice (2026), El trencito (2026) in Rudimento Quito, TV Buddha (Mira Art Fair, 2024), Amor y Besitos (Mother x La Clef Revival, DOC, 2024), and Rompe la Piñata (Beaux-Arts de Paris, 2024).

Nicole holds a DNSAP from the Beaux-Arts de Paris. Recent exhibitions include Puerto Adentro in Museo Centro Cultural de Manta (2026), El fantasma de Tennessee at Marcelle Alix (2025), Coller l’oreille aux colimaçons at FRAC Île-de-France (2024), J’aime la vie quand t’es là at Exo Exo (2023), and Semblable à un petit os de seiche at Bétonsalon (2023).

She appears on the 2025 cover of Art Interrupted, Línea Recta edition, and her work was published in Pour toi (2023).
