Our Poetry and Spoken Word events are held on the second Saturday of the month at 3 p.m., with a Poetry Writing Workshop running from 2 pm to 3 pm.
Feature:
Santo Cazzati is a spoken word and piano performer. The son of Italian immigrants to Australia, he taught at an elite Melbourne private school which must remain anonymous in order to protect those concerned. He performs in a range of styles, from fast rhythmical to slow atmospheric. A fixture on Melbourne's grassroots poetry scene, he founded and presented the long-running Spoken Word radio program on 3CR and was the PJ ('poetry jockey') of the House of Bricks spoken word gig from 2012-16. He was one of the convenors of The P Word Sessions. He was the winner of the Overload Poetry Festival Shelton Lea Award for Best Solo Performance and also won the Convenors Choice of the 2018 Melbourne Spoken Word Prize. Melbourne Spoken Word’s Audacious audio journal Issue 3 was a special single artist edition devoted to ‘The Collected Smirks Of Santo Cazzati
An 'open mic' is available for as many poets as we can squeeze in before and after our feature.
This gig is happy to celebrate young poets (the Little Aesthetics program for anyone 12 and under) as well as people who read the works of other poets (the Rhetorical Recreation Society). If you have work you would like other people to present, you will always find cheerful readers as well.
The venue for Perc.U.lations is the wonderfully generous Kafé on Hemmings (86 Hemmings St), in Dandenong. about a 15-minute walk from either Dandenong or Yarraman train stations. There is also handy, free parking available behind the medical center on the opposite corner.
Perc.U.lations, is taking place on the stolen lands of the Wurundjeri and Bunerong peoples of the Kulin Nation. Sovereignty was never ceded and we extend our respects to Indigenous elders past, present, and emerging.
This event is ticketed using ‘Pay as you Feel’ via Eventbrite, as the Kafé will continue serving the general public.
Perc.U.lations is affiliated with Radio Laria and is committed to highlighting the voices of women and gender-diverse poets. 50% or more of all features throughout the year will be women, however, men are also encouraged to apply to this event and the open mic is open to anyone.
Tickets are via the Eventbrite link and 'pay as you feel'.
