About this Event
Hoyt Arboretum's Redwood Trail is home to coast redwoods - trees that can live more than 2,000 years. Nearby, a grove of dawn redwoods offers one of nature's most astonishing stories: this species was known only from fossils, believed to be extinct for millions of years, until a living grove was discovered in a remote valley in China in 1944.
This walk is built around awe. We'll enter the redwood grove and simply stand inside it, letting the scale speak before any words do. Families with children will be invited to measure the trees, count how many people it takes to embrace one, and discover just how much life a single ancient tree supports. We’ll talk about what was happening in the world when some of these trees were saplings.
