people dancing together: movement improv | Wed Sep 30th | 7-8:30pm | PWYC

This is an open level movement improv evening for artists, performers and anyone who wants to move, led by Mary Catherine Jack and Jocelyn Todd with live music by Nick Schofield. The session will include guided improvisation, a few minutes of free writing and finished with a structured group improvisation.

PEOPLE

Mary Catherine Jack is an Ottawa based independant dance artist. She is passionate about movement and takes great joy in sharing this passion with others. She divides her career between teaching, creating and performing. Her current artistic exploration involves ideas around ecology, stewardship and reciprocity.

Jocelyn Todd (she/her) is a choreographer, multi-disciplinary artist, administrator, teacher, student, worker and, previously, festival producer currently working in Ottawa.

Nick Schofield is an active musician who has performed at Place des Arts for MUTEK Montreal, the National Arts Centre in Ottawa, SXSW in Austin and the Getty Museum in Los Angeles, opening for artists like Angel Olsen, Colin Stetson, Hauschka and Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith. His albums have received press coverage from Bandcamp Daily, CBC Q, Exclaim!, Montreal Gazette, and Aquarium Drunkard described him as a “dazzling electronic artist”.

ACCESS

Arts Court has accessible entry-points, the workshop will be held in a physically accessible studio and there is an accessible washroom near the entrance to Ottawa Dance Directive on the second floor.

This workshop will be led in English, but translation can be offered in french.

We will be guided to move and dance or experience stillness - everything is optional and options will be given.
