Join PEO Mississauga Chapter for Shaping the Future of Mining and Construction, featuring Ingrid Martinez, P.Eng., of WSP and Saman Fatema, M.Eng., EIT, PMP®, of Bird Construction, along with an additional guest speaker from Toastmasters. Hear their perspectives on careers, major projects, industry challenges, and the evolving future of mining and construction, followed by networking and light refreshments.
You are welcome to attend this Women in Engineering event highlighting the experiences, perspectives, and contributions of women working across mining, construction, infrastructure, and project delivery.
The evening will feature Ingrid Martinez, P.Eng., Senior Principal Mine Waste Engineer and Mine Closure Consultant at WSP, and Saman Fatema, M.Eng., EIT, PMP®, Project Planner with Bird Construction, along with an additional guest speaker from Toastmasters.
Our speakers will share insights from their career journeys, experiences working on complex multidisciplinary projects, lessons learned throughout their careers, and perspectives on the evolving future of the mining and construction industries.
Whether you are an engineering student, EIT, P.Eng., or professional interested in mining, construction, or women in engineering, this event will provide an opportunity to learn from women working in the field, ask questions, and connect with members of the engineering community.

ABOUT OUR SPEAKERS
Ingrid Martinez, P.Eng.
Senior Principal Mine Waste Engineer & Mine Closure Consultant, WSP
Ingrid Martinez is a Senior Principal Mine Waste Engineer and Mine Closure Consultant in WSP's Mississauga office, with more than 24 years of experience in mining engineering projects. She also serves as WSP's Mine Closure Practice Area Network Lead.
A registered Professional Engineer in Ontario, Ingrid has worked on national and international projects across North, Central and South America, the Caribbean, Asia, and Africa.
Her project management and design experience includes geotechnical site investigations, siting studies, conceptual through detailed design of tailings management facilities, dam inspections and dam safety reviews, construction supervision, water management, tailings deposition planning, in-pit disposal, mine waste rock management, mine closure and reclamation planning, cost estimating, risk assessments, and tailings management facility reviews and audits.
Ingrid's experience also includes serving in Engineer of Record roles for tailings management facilities.
Her first language is Spanish, and she is fluent in English.
Saman Fatema, M.Eng., EIT, PMP®
Project Planner | Project Controls & Construction Planning
Saman Fatema is a Project Planner with more than eight years of experience in construction project planning, scheduling, and project controls. She holds a Master's degree in Civil Engineering and has expertise in project planning, Primavera P6, resource allocation, progress monitoring, risk management, and cross-functional coordination.
Saman has worked on major multidisciplinary infrastructure projects internationally and in Canada, including the East Harbour Transit Hub in Toronto. She is currently an employee of Bird Construction and a member of the Alliance Team representing Bird Construction on the project.
In this role, she supports integrated project planning and controls, including developing and maintaining detailed schedules, coordinating design, procurement, and construction activities, monitoring progress against baseline schedules, identifying critical paths and schedule risks, and supporting short-term and look-ahead planning.
Throughout her career, Saman has worked across infrastructure and ICI projects, collaborating with project managers, contractors, consultants, and multidisciplinary teams. Her experience also includes schedule development and review, Time Impact Analysis, progress measurement, delay assessment, change management, resource planning, and project reporting.
Saman is passionate about effective project planning and collaboration and believes strong planning, communication, and proactive risk management are essential to delivering complex construction projects successfully. She is particularly interested in sharing practical project-planning knowledge and experiences with professionals and the next generation of engineering and project management leaders.
TOASTMASTERS GUEST SPEAKER
The evening will also feature an additional guest speaker from Toastmasters, bringing another perspective to the discussion on communication, leadership, professional development, and career growth within engineering.
