Come learn about methods for propagating different California native Penstemon (Beardtongue plants) and take some seed & cuttings home too!
About this Event

Join us for a short, but sweet class on growing a few of our local native Penstemon (Beardtongue) species from seed and cuttings! This event is part of our traditional Propagation Thursdays, which runs from 9am - 12noon, but feel free to stay for only the class portion. Topics and plants covered include:

- Treating seed of various Penstemon species for germination and propagation

- Taking and preparing cuttings of Penstemon heterophyllus

- Tips on handling Penstemon seedlings after germination

DETAILS:

The Penstemon propagation workshop takes place from 10am - 11:30am, and general propagation volunteer hours begin at 9am, and go thru 12pm. Arrive anytime between 9am and 10am for best experience.

This workshop and other volunteer work will take place outdoors at the Rancho Sierra Vista nursery. Much of the work can take place under shade, but volunteers should be prepared to stand for at least 2 hours and be exposed to the cold and sun for various lengths of time. Please wear hiking or outdoor working attire, bring water/reusable water bottle, sunscreen, and a sun hat. Attendees under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. (Questions? email - [email protected])

1. Park in the final, bottom, lower visitor parking lot: Car Park for Sycamore Canyon

2. Walk past the left side of the bathrooms, past the Eucalyptus grove.

3. Walk into and past the horse stable area, and into Rancho Sierra Vista Nursery.

From the Ventura Fwy (101) to Lynn Rd exit. South on Lynn Rd 5.25 miles to Via Goleta. Park entrance is on the left.
