The concert will feature special performances from talented local choirs and musicians. There will be plenty of opportunity to join in with well-known Christmas carols and tunes along the way – so make sure to get those singing voices prepared!
Hosted by BBC Radio Bristol's Ali Vowles and (new for 2024) Laura Rawlings!
Ali Vowles is a well-known face and voice in the West, after a career working for BBC Points West and BBC Radio Bristol. Over the years she has supported hundreds of local causes and charities, including hosting the Penny Brohn UK Christmas Concert in 2023!
“I loved presenting the Penny Brohn UK Christmas Concert last year. From the minute you arrive, you really get into the Christmas spirit. There were carols being sung outside as we arrived and plenty of festive goodies on offer – with mulled wine, mince pies and so much more. Clifton College Chapel is just lovely. And as for the concert itself – beautiful music, lovely readings and the knowledge that everyone in the audience has a deep love, understanding and appreciation for the work that Penny Brohn UK does.
But of course my joy was tinged by sadness as my ex BBC colleague, Laura Rawlings, was too poorly to be the host. She was doing what everyone living with cancer has to do – undergoing treatment to try to get better. So when I stepped in, not only was I doing it for Penny Brohn UK, but I was also representing my lovely friend.
I’m so proud of her. I’ve seen how Laura has navigated her cancer journey with such bravery and honesty. I’ve seen Team Laura in action too- seeing the love of her family and friends. And I know how much she values all the support she’s had from Penny Brohn.
So for me this year it’s extra special as we’re pleased to announce that Laura will be with us this year. Together we’ll be guiding you through the evening and getting into the Christmas spirit. So do come – we’d love you to be there!” ~ Ali Vowles
