“Home is where I’m going, but never coming”A soldier returns home to his wife after twenty years away in an unnamed war, but neither is who they once were. Through scenes from Homer’s epic poem The Odyssey, we see them cling to memories as they search for each other in their tangle of minds.
Penelope (music by Sarah Kirkland Snider & libretto by Ellen McLaughlin) blends classical, folk and indie-rock musical influences with Greek mythology and a contemporary libretto into a powerful story of a troubled homecoming.
In this world-first choral arrangement by composer/conductor Juliana Kay, experience heightened theatricality and emotional impact of the work with new textures, harmonies and movement, expertly handled by the singers of Alta Collective, chamber ensemble and guest children’s choirs*
* Young Voices of Melbourne - 25 October
The Yarra Voices - 26 October
