Pendulum Hearts at White Lilac
About this Event
Straight out of Austin, Texas, Pendulum Hearts bring a wild, joyful, boot-scootin’ blend of Western Swing, Honky Tonk, Gypsy Jazz, Jazz Manouche, Rockabilly, and what they proudly call Alt-Country Swing.
This is the kind of band that makes it nearly impossible to sit still. Led by Chase Risinger — also known as Johnny Dioxide — on guitar and vocals, Pendulum Hearts write songs that wander from extraterrestrial love to cheap beer and Buddhism, all wrapped in contagious rhythms, sharp humor, and offbeat charm. Add Tony Perez’s blazing fiddle work, Josh Hoag’s slap-happy upright bass, and Cabe Irvine’s rock-solid swing behind the drums, and you’ve got a band built for two-stepping, laughing, hollering, and cutting a rug.
Their sound is rooted in Texas Swing tradition but never trapped by it. One minute it feels like a sweaty Austin honky-tonk, the next it’s red-hot jazz, country fiddling, moonshine blues, or surfy swing with a New Orleans grin.
KUTX’s Jack Anderson praised the band’s “double shot cocktail of Western Swing and Honky Tonk,” noting that their music “makes you want to two-step.” Texas Chill Country wrote that “when it comes to keeping Austin weird, the Pendulum Hearts take the crown,” calling their sound a unique blend of Gypsy Jazz and Texas Swing. Jimmy Ray Dunn of 97.3 The Eagle compared their song “A Man with a Plan” to “Charlie Daniels with a swing style of Asleep At The Wheel.”
Pendulum Hearts are nationally touring, Austin-bred, and built for rooms that love musicianship, humor, and high-energy original music. Come ready for spirited solos, strange and wonderful songs and serious chops.
This one’s going to be loose, lively, and a whole lot of fun.
