About this Event

Pen-Ting was reborn in 2017, and has since established itself as a pivotal rap & poetry night, championing rising stars and pioneering artists of page and stage from London open mic scene through their monthly shows at the Bush Theatre and the Poetry Café, and festival appearances.

Pen-Ting shows performances from artists breaking beyond genres and delivering intricate and inventive wordsmithery, grounded by a commitment to centre Black, Queer, and othered voices. It’s the best of Hip Hop and Poetry, good vibes, inventive rhymes, and impacting lines, every time. Previous headliners include Roger Robinson (TS Eliot Prize), Truemendous (High Focus), Safiyah Kamaria Kinshasa, Otis Mensah, Shunaji, and Kid Anansi (Bafta-winning Life & Rhymes).

This month for we're welcoming British-Ghanaian writer Anneliese Amoah and Nigerian-Irish actor and poet FEJIRO to the Pen-Ting stage, and it's set to be a b-b-banger!

BIOS

Anneliese is a British-Ghanaian writer and poet.

Her past features and creative engagements include Cece's Speakeasy and BBC's Words First in collaboration with Apples and Snakes. She has performed at events such as Jawdance x Bloomsbury Festival, Pearson UK's Lit in Colour student conference and at prestigious venues such as the US Embassy. Her first short story was selected as a winning entry for her borough and subsequently published in Spread the Word's City of Stories: Home Anthology.

She can be found on instagram @awordbya.

FEJIRO. is a 21 year old nigerian-irish actor, poet, and writer who has moved to london and is currently attending drama school at rose bruford college in sidcup, kent.

with their writing, they try to invite people into a world of discovery and imagination in an attempt to evoke critical thought and radicalisation. they aim to only bridge the gap between the audience and their innermost selves.

their influences include radical Black thinkers, poets, and artists such as porsha olayiwola, loyce gayo, crystal valentine, steven willis, james baldwin, audre lorde, toni morrison, fela kuti, gil scott-heron, and many more.


OPEN MIC


Whether you’re a rapper, poet, musician, actor, or storyteller of any kind, you’re welcome to 3 minutes on the mic to do your thing.

We have 10 Open Mic tickets available on the door, arrive at 7:00 to sign up!
