About this Event
The PEN/Bernard and Ann Malamud Award for Excellence in the Short Story is one of the nation’s most distinguished prizes for the short story. This year, we are honoring Ted Chiang in a ceremony that will feature a reading, a conversation with author Jung Yun, and remarks by Janna Malamud Smith, Bernard and Ann Malamud’s daughter. The ceremony will be followed by a book signing and a reception with light refreshments.
This evening is hosted in partnership with the MFA Program in Creative Writing at American University.

Ted Chiang's fiction has won four Hugo, four Nebula, and six Locus Awards, and it has been reprinted in Best American Short Stories. His first collection, Stories of Your Life and Others, has been translated into twenty-one languages, and the title story was the basis for the Oscar-nominated film Arrival. His second collection, Exhalation, was chosen by the New York Times as one of the 10 Best Books of 2019.
