Sketching is storytelling. It is about capturing the moment and its essence. It increases visual and spatial awareness and is extremely accessible as a tool for any creative process. It is emotionally rewarding as an artistic endeavor, and if done right, can be meditative as well. To tell a compelling story, it is important to compose and capture the scene in a timely manner, while at the same time not worrying too much about accuracy and getting bogged down by the details. In this workshop we will work on honing the skills needed to compose a scene and capture the essentials. We will incorporate fast confident lines and reduce the scene to its basic elements using shapes, layers, and values. We will do exercises to get us comfortable in creating bold and confident lines, to discern basic shapes in a scene, and compose the final sketch. Participants may choose to use pen, marker, or pencil to create black and white line drawings.Your workshop starts at ARTspot. Andika will give a short overview before your group heads out to sketch! Workshop outdoor location will be within walking distance of ARTspot. Exact location TBD. Andika will select where we draw based on weather, etc.
