Did you know that Pembroke was not only home to master shipbuilders but also to famed architects of the 1800’s? Join us to learn more about Alexander Parris (Quincy Market and our own First Church rebuilt in 1837) and Luther Briggs Jr. (The Hexagon House on Washington Street). Luther Briggs Jr., was the son of famous Pembroke shipbuilder, Luther Briggs Sr. He was also the nephew of Alexander Parris who, in his day, had been considered to be a lead architect in Boston.
Like the shipbuilders of Pembroke, who made their influence here in town as well as in other parts of the state, so too did our architects. Unlike the wooden shipyards that have vanished over time, our architect’s structures continue to thrive as important landmarks throughout Massachusetts and beyond.
Come join us at the museum for an afternoon dedicated to our two renowned architects. See their great work and hear about their lives from letters we have in our museum that were written between 180 and 220 years ago. It’s an amazing collection that we are honored to share with you.
The presentation is open to the public-bring a friend or 2. We ensure you that you’ll be amazed to learn of the lasting impact made by these two incredible architects.
