Peer Support: A Career in Recovery & Wellness

Join the JVS SoCal Veterans AJCC Certified Peer Support Specialist Information Session to learn how you can begin a rewarding career in behavioral health and human services. This no-cost training is designed for eligible Los Angeles County Veterans who are passionate about supporting others through recovery, wellness, and community connection.

During the information session, you'll learn about:

• The Certified Peer Support Specialist training curriculum
• State certification requirements and career pathways
• Program expectations and eligibility
• Employment opportunities in behavioral health, social services, and Veteran services
• Supportive services available through the Veterans AJCC
• The enrollment process and next steps

• No-cost training for eligible participants
• 80-hour Certified Peer Support Specialist training
• Prepare for California Peer Support Specialist Certification
• Learn trauma-informed care, recovery principles, ethics, motivational interviewing, communication skills, and professional boundaries
• Career coaching, resume development, and interview preparation
• Job placement assistance upon successful completion

Peer Support Specialists are employed in a variety of settings, including:

• Veterans Service Organizations
• Behavioral Health Agencies
• Community Mental Health Programs
• Hospitals and Health Systems
• Substance Use Recovery Programs
• Nonprofit Organizations
• County and State Agencies
• Crisis Response and Outreach Programs
• Housing and Homeless Services

Applicants should:

• Have a passion for helping others and supporting recovery.
• Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Be interested in careers in behavioral health, human services, Veteran services, or community outreach.
• Be committed to completing the full training program and certification requirements.

To begin the enrollment process, please bring:

• Valid Government-Issued Photo ID
• Social Security Card or U.S. Passport
• DD214 (Member 4 or Service Copy showing Character of Service)
• Proof of Los Angeles County Residency (if requested)
