Peace Walk Against AUKUS 26' Fundraiser #2
About this Event
Folks from all over the continent are about to embark on a 5-week journey from Port Augusta to Port Adelaide as part of a continent wide anti-nuclear and anti-war campaign. We are the Peace Walkers Against AUKUS and we are fundraising for supplies to support us on our big journey! We will walk to raise awareness of the dangers of Uranium mining, directly opposing AUKUS from both a climate and social justice perspective. Our main concerns:
- The illegal dumping of extremely hazardous depleted uranium on sacred Country, and the way this toxic waste will irreversibly poison lands, waterways, and all living beings on it
- The blatant escalation towards war and the irresponsible usage of billions of taxpayer dollars on AUKUS that could be instead used to fund much needed hospitals, schools, social housing, NDIS programs and re-foresting projects in a time of ongoing climate catastrophe
- The increasing alignment with the US Imperial war machine which will only further potential for nuclear war, an existential threat to the climate and humanity.
On our walk, we hope to connect with local communities to exchange stories and perspectives on these important matters, host events and information nights, strengthen resilient community connections in the face of ongoing climate change, and connect to the beautiful lands that we are sustained by.
