What makes THIS Eclipse special?
-Chris Sirola, associate professor of astronomy and physics at the University of Southern Mississippi explains, “This will be the last total solar eclipse in the continental United States until 2045.”
-Donna Pierce, associate professor of astrophysics, also at MSU explains that this eclipse is special for many reasons. "What's going to make this one different from the 2017 eclipse is especially for folks that are going to witness totality. That's because the moon is going to be closer to Earth than in 2017.”
-Even though we only get 90% in Decatur, the effects will be similar to totality.
-Dr. Pierce also shares that eclipse viewers should note what's happening around them!
Sounds like Wild Alabama’s Janice Barrett’s guidance to OBSERVE in Nature Journaling Workshops:)
-Pierce said birds will become quiet and begin roosting because they think night is coming. She said the temperature will also be affected and drop as much as 10 degrees.
