Peace on the Korean Peninsula?

Despite repeated calls from the international community, North Korea has refused to engage in any dialogue in sincerity. Instead, Pyongyang expanded its nuclear arsenal while its people continued to suffer hunger, poverty and human rights abuses. And this October, North Korea revised its constitution to officially define South Korea as a hostile state. Moreover, the North Korean regime is sending ammunition and troops to Ukraine in an aid to Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine.

What has happened in the Korean peninsula, and why? Does it still make sense to talk about peace there? Can a political process be given a chance again? What are the lessons from the Northern Ireland peace process to the Korean peninsula, if there are any? Please join Professor Alexander Dukalskis from UCD and Professor David Mitchell from Trinity College Dublin in pursuit of answers to these challenging questions.
