Peace Bump: Community Crosswalk Painting Project

Hosted by Your Move MKE, Inc. in partnership with the Neighborhood Improvement Development Corporation (NIDC)
Be part of an exciting community art project as we transform the crosswalk at 9th Street & Lincoln Avenue into a vibrant public art installation that celebrates peace, creativity, and neighborhood pride.
The Peace Bump project brings together youth, artists, volunteers, and residents to create colorful traffic-calming artwork that makes our streets more welcoming while encouraging drivers to slow down and helping make our community safer.

🎨 Community Painting Days
Thursday, August 7 & Friday, August 8
12:00 PM – 7:00 PM
Help paint the Peace Bump alongside local artists, youth leaders, and community volunteers. No artistic experience is needed—everyone is welcome!
🎉 Community Unveiling Celebration
Saturday, August 9

Why We're Painting a Peace Bump
The Peace Bump project is designed to:
- Create safer streets through creative traffic-calming art
- Beautify public spaces
- Encourage community ownership and neighborhood pride
- Give youth opportunities to lead meaningful community projects
- Bring neighbors together through creativity and service
This project is part of Painting Peace MKE, a larger South Side beautification initiative led by Your Move MKE to transform public spaces into places where people feel safe, connected, and proud to gather.
Volunteers Needed!
We're looking for volunteers of all ages to assist with:
- Painting
- Setup and cleanup
- Greeting community members
- Assisting youth participants
- Distributing supplies
Whether you can volunteer for an hour or the entire day, your support helps make this project possible.
