They welcome volunteers of all ages and abilities, including individuals, families, school groups, church groups, youth organizations, and corporate teams. We have scheduled our REFIT group for 20 volunteers. We have 9 signed up so far, and need to fill 11 spots. Please let us know if you can attend and help by Thursday, December 11th.
Every Friday night, Food for Thought volunteers pack 250 brown bag lunches for Saturday’s distribution. Their goal on Saturday is not just to provide a meal, but to serve with dignity and respect. Since 2007, they’ve never missed a Saturday. They build connections by learning names and stories, and by off ering quality lunches, which include a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, snacks, and a napkin. Volunteers help them achieve these goals by preparing the lunches on Friday night, ensuring they’re ready to serve with care the following morning.
Volunteers are asked to arrive by 6:00 PM for a brief overview and instructions from one of their skilled volunteer leads. Volunteers will then rotate between tasks such as making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, packaging snacks, or decorating paper bags, depending on their age, skill level, and interests. Once the lunches are packed, they’re loaded into totes, and volunteers help clean up the workspaces, including washing dishes. Volunteers with peanut allergies are welcome to participate, let the lead volunteer or staff member know, and you can assist with packing the totes instead.
Also, if possible, they’d appreciate donations of sliced bread, bottled water, or individually packaged snacks. These are welcome but not required.
