Ne vieną tarptautinį apdovanojimą pelnęs ir Belgijoje gyvenantis menininkas parodoje rodys Hanojuje ir Paryžiuje kurtus videodarbus ir tapinius.
„Stebintis peizažas“ – jau keturiolikta asmeninė Pauliaus Šliaupos paroda, tyrinėjanti akimirkas, kuriose persipina technologijos, gamta ir žmogaus jutimai. Hanojuje ir Paryžiuje sukurti videodarbai ir tapiniai – tai bandymas pajusti gamtą kaip struktūrą, kuri tęsiasi per mus.
Pasak P. Šliaupos, parodos „Stebintis peizažas“ kūriniai leidžia nuosekliai ir per skirtingas medijas tyrinėti tą pačią esminę būseną – peizažą kaip gyvą, veikiantį santykį, o ne kaip vaizdą ar foną.
„Man buvo svarbu atsisakyti peizažo kaip stabilios, „neutralios“ kategorijos ir parodyti jį kaip struktūrą, kuri driekiasi per kūną, atmintį, technologijas ir galios mechanizmus“, – apie būsimą parodą pasakoja menininkas.
Belgijoje gyvenantis ir kuriantis P. Šliaupa nuolat keliauja ir dalyvauja tarptautinėse meno rezidencijoje, kurių patirtys bei pažintys atsispindi ir jo kūryboje.
P. Šliaupą domina būsena, kurioje ekranai, garsai ir šviesos mus įtraukia taip giliai, kad atsiranda nesvarumo pojūtis, kai garsas grimzta į aidinčią gelmę, o šviesa, užuot apšvietusi, praryja motyvą.
„Stebintis peizažas“ atsisako „didžiojo vaizdo“ ir kviečia stebėti peizažą kaip fragmentišką, ideologiškai formuojamą ir nuolat kintantį procesą, kuriame stebėjimas reiškia įsitraukimą.
▪️ APIE MENININKĄ
Gimęs geologų šeimoje ir užaugęs prie Merkio, P. Šliaupa (g. 1990) išsiugdė glaudų ryšį su gamta ir aiškų suvokimą, kad gamta mus pranoksta, nors ir esame jos dalis. Jo kūryboje, ypač filmuose, dažnai juntamas ir didingumo, ir kasdienybės pojūtis žmogaus patiriamoje gamtoje. Pradėjęs nuo tapybos, menininkas kuria videodarbus, instaliacijas bei rašo meno tekstus.
Paulius baigė tapybos bakalauro ir skulptūros magistro studijas Vilniaus dailės akademijoje ir medijų meno magistro studijas KASK bei HISK poakademinės rezidencijos programą Gente, Belgijoje. Menininkas yra dalyvavęs tokiose meno rezidencijose kaip „Fondation Fiminco“ Paryžiuje, „M.A.P Heritage space“ Hanojuje; „Centre Intermondes“ Prancūzijoje, SIM Reikjavike, „ARE Holland“ Enschede, Olandijoje, ir RAVI Lježo mieste, Belgijoje. 2022 metais Paulius laimėjo „ArtContest22“ jaunųjų Belgijos menininkų konkurso ir „INPUT/OUTPUT 2023 Brugge“ pagrindinį prizą bei 2024 metais Rumunijoje vykusio „Simultan“ technologijų festivalio prizą.

On Thursday, January 15, at 6 p.m., artist Paulius Šliaupa will present his solo exhibition, The Watchful Ground, at the Meno Niša gallery. Šliaupa, a winner of numerous international awards who lives in Belgium, will display video works and paintings created in Hanoi and Paris.
The Watchful Ground is Paulius Šliaupa’s fourteenth solo exhibition, which explores the intersection of technology, nature, and the human senses. The video works and paintings, created in Hanoi and Paris, are an attempt to experience nature as a structure extending through us.
According to Šliaupa, the works in The Watchful Ground allow us to consistently explore the same essential state – landscape as a living, active relationship rather than an image or background – through different media. “It was important for me to abandon the notion of landscape as a stable, ‘neutral’ category and to show it as a structure extending through the body, memory, technologies, and mechanisms of power,” the artist says of the upcoming exhibition.
P. Šliaupa is interested in the state in which screens, sounds, and lights draw us in so deeply that a feeling of weightlessness arises when sound sinks into an echoing depth and, instead of illuminating, light swallows the motif.
The Watchful Ground rejects the “big picture” and invites us to observe the landscape as an ideologically shaped, fragmentary, and constantly changing process in which observation means involvement.
▪️ ABOUT ARTIST
P. Šliaupa (b. 1990) was born into a family of geologists and raised near the Merkys River. He developed a close connection with nature and a clear understanding that, although we are part of it, nature surpasses us. His work, especially his films, conveys a sense of the grandeur and everyday nature of the human experience in relation to nature.
The artist started with painting and now creates video works and installations and writes art texts. He completed his Bachelor’s in Painting and Master’s in Sculpture at the Vilnius Academy of Arts, as well as a Master’s in Media Art at KASK and HISK.
He also completed a post-academic residency program in Ghent, Belgium. He has participated in art residencies at the Fondation Fiminco in Paris; the M.A.P Heritage Space in Hanoi; the Centre Intermondes in La Rochelle, France; the SIM in Reykjavik; the ARE Holland in Enschede, the Netherlands; and the RAVI in Liège, Belgium. In 2022, Šliaupa won the ArtContest22 competition for young Belgian artists, the INPUT/OUTPUT 2023 Brugge Grand Prize, and the Simultan Technology Festival Prize in Romania in 2024.
