Paul Winter's Winter Solstice Celebration
About this Event
About The Event:
For the past 44 years, Paul Winter and his Consort have been artists-in-residence at the world’s largest Gothic cathedral, New York’s St. John the Divine, where they have presented over 200 unique events, including annual Winter and Summer Solstice Celebrations. The Winter Solstice Celebration grew to become New York’s favorite holiday alternative to the Radio City Christmas Spectacular and the Nutcracker.
Now the Consort is taking these Celebrations on the road to more intimate venues around New England!
The Consort includes Paul Winter on soprano sax, cellist Eugene Friesen, Brazilian pianist Henrique Eisenmann, Bulgarian bassist Peter Slavov, percussionist Bertram Lehmann, and beloved vocalist Theresa Thomason.
"Central to all the traditions of Solstice is the renewal of spirit,” says Paul Winter, “symbolized by the rebirth of the sun. Winter Solstice is a time for healing and for hope. It is a time to celebrate community and relatedness, and a time to honor the diversity and the unity of this great cornucopia of life on Earth. In remembering the Solstice, we resonate once again with the rhythm of the cosmos and allow our hearts to embrace the optimism of our ancient knowledge that the light will overcome the darkness.”
