Paul Hendon’s Goodman Sextet
The group features:
Paul Hendon - clarinet, saxophone
Glenn Henrich (Sydney) - vibraphone, saxophone
Jo Bloomfield - piano
Alex Compton (Sydney) - double bass
Dave Burrows - guitar
Rod Ford - drums
Made famous by the Goodman/Lionel Hampton collaboration all those years ago, the combination of clarinet and vibraphone still offers a delightful pairing where the clarinet's focused sound is juxtaposed with the vibraphone's resonant, shimmering tones to create a unique and engaging musical experience.
Backed by a seasoned and sympathetic rhythm section, the group is looking forward to presenting their version of standards such as “Avalon” & “Moonglow”, as well as a few of the lesser known but equally beautiful tunes hidden away in many of Goodman’s recordings.
There will also be a nod to some of Goodman’s big band recordings from the Swing Era, and with two of those on stage also talented vocalists, they may even break out in song at some point!
Tickets are $20 for members and $25 for non-members. For bookings, please call Keryn on 0419 658 983.
Food and beverages are also available for purchase at the Southport Bowls Club.
