About this Event
In this two day workshop you’ll learn how to take an idea from your sketchbook & turn it into a pattern, perfectly fitted with professional techniques to your measurements.
You’ll have the option to either draft a pattern block from scratch or to customise a pattern taken from your own clothing or a commercial pattern. We’ll toile your pattern in calico and fit it to you throughout the weekend, learning how to adapt the pattern as we go along, taking your idea from sketch to a pattern ready to sew!
Throughout this process, you’ll learn the techniques for drafting your own pattern, how to use pattern cutting tools, tailoring techniques and how to create patterns for your own design ideas.
What’s included:
- Teaching from Veryan, a tailor with over 10 years experience in pattern-cutting & design
- You’ll leave with a fitted calico toile and a fully drafted pattern, ready for you to sew in a fabric of your choosing
- All calico, dot & cross paper and other sewing utensils needed to make your pattern
- Sewing machines & all sewing essentials
- Tea, coffee & biscuits
- These are small workshops of up to three people, so there’s time for one-to-one help throughout the sessions
- Two day workshop

FAQs:
Can I have help deciding whether to draft a pattern block or to work from another pattern?
Of course! Before the course starts, we’ll be in touch to chat through the design you’d like to pattern & how might be best to approach it.
Can I come if I’ve never sewn before?
Yes. If you’re a beginner, we’ll spend a bit of time running through how to use a sewing machine before getting stuck in to pattern cutting. If you’re more experienced, we’ll get straight on with drafting your block or working from the pattern you bring.
Is there anywhere close by for lunch?
Within the Thames-Side Studios complex there’s The Arts Cafe, The Reach Climbing Wall cafe & also the vegan Ethiopian cafe, as well as a lovely square with benches to eat in, if the sun’s out.
How many spaces are available?
Only three spots are available.
What is your cancellation policy?
Please let us know as soon as possible if you can no longer make the course for a full refund. Cancellations during the week the workshops are held can only get a 70% refund (not including eventbrite’s fees).
