About this Event
Learn pattern hacking techniques - workshop
Join our pattern cutting techniques - full day workshop!
This workshop is the ultimate introduction to pattern cutting for beginners.
In this class we will learn different skills within pattern cutting and pattern manipulation. These skills can then be used to create a variety of different styles of garment, either by hacking patterns you already have into new styles, or you could join one of our block drafting classes and use these techniques to change your blocks into any style you want!
I'll show you how to apply these techniques to a miniature pattern block and we'll create a selection of different styles that you can then recreate life size at home. We'll work with skirt and bodice blocks mostly in this class and we'll be working with miniatures, so there is no need to bring your own blocks.
If you'd like to bring along some pictures of different designs, please do! We can take a look to see how these designs have been created and discuss techniques that may have been used.
This is the perfect workshop if you already know how to sew and want to take that next step into drafting your own patterns. Please note: this is not a class we would recommend for beginner sewers. Ideally you should have some garment construction knowledge before delving into pattern drafting, but if you've used some commercial patterns before and have made a few garments this will be fine. It's totally fine if you're new to pattern making! This is your first steps and you'll be guided through the process.
With a maximum of 5 students per class, this is a small group setting and is perfect for developing your blocks. The studio is only small, so we keep the numbers low to keep it from feeling too cramped.
