About this Event
This is a 2 day class on Monday 22nd and Tuesday 23rd July if you book, it will cover you for both days.
Mary-Louise will teach you how to take a standard trouser block and adjust it to fit your unique shape. You will make this up as a toile, fine tune the fit and create a pattern from it.
You can expect through practical activities in both paper and fabric to learn the following pattern cutting principles
Using markings on the toile to identify and rectify fit issues.
Closing darts and eliminating them to create a facing. To make changes to a basic facing to create a better fit and finish.
Principles for creating waistbands or yokes.
How to change a dart into a seam-line or other method of disposing of fullness such as a pleat or gather.
Turn a block into a pattern with the addition of seam and hem allowances, grain-lines, balance points and matching notches.
Principles to follow when making style changes to your basic trouser block or pattern.
You may get the opportunity to mock up a style change to your pattern if you are a quick worker and you only have minor fit changes to address. If this is the case you will require more fabric for a second toile.
You will need to bring:
2.5 m of calico and a reel of machine thread.
A pencil, preferably a retractable one, a Biro or fine liner and a reel of scotch tape.
A basic sewing kit – Fabric scissors and a rotary cutter if you like to use one, pins, hand sewing needles, un-picker/seam ripper, tacking/basting thread, tape measure and a pen or pencil to add to your notes.
Refreshments are provided, but you may wish to bring a packed lunch or pop out to get something.
