Join us for a fun sewing experience where you'll transform fabric scraps from your stash into a beautiful dress!Saturday October 5th and 12th 1-5pm . (8 hours )
Sew a patchwork Sleevless Sm ock dress !
In this class, you will learn patchwork techniques and garment construction while creating a unique and sustainable piece for your wardrobe. Just in time for Summer!
What You'll Learn:
Patchwork Basics : Understand the principles of patchwork, including fabric selection, cutting techniques, and piecing methods.
Designing Your Smock Dress : Learn how to incorporate your patched pieces into a simple smock dress pattern that showcases your patchwork design.
Garment Construction : Master the steps of assembling a smock dress, including sewing binding , creating gathers, and finishing techniques.
Embracing Sustainability: Explore the creative potential of fabric scraps and how to reduce textile waste by upcycling fabric from your stash.
The workshop will be divided into practical sessions:
Week 1.
Begin piecing together your fabric scraps using an overlocker.
Learn how to incorporate your patchwork panels into the smock dress pattern and cut out your fabric pices. Week 2
Sew your dress! Practice essential sewing skills such as sewing darts, gathering, hemming, plus making and sewing bias binding.
What to bring:
-Assorted fabric scraps from your stash (cotton or linen recommended). Enough to make approximately 3.5meters of patched fabric.
-Thread to match
-Feel free to byo sewing kit.
Provided:
- Sage Smock Dress Pattern (printed for you)
-Sewing machines and all of the tools needed.
-Overlockers
-Tea, coffee, biscuits
-Expert instruction
Please Note: Due to limited time, we will only be sewing the sleeveless version in class however, if you would like to add sleeves you can do so at home .
By the end of the workshop, you will have created a one-of-a-kind sage smock dress that reflects your personal style and ethical values. You'll also gain confidence in your sewing abilities and a deeper appreciation for sustainable fashion practices.
