How did children play in ancient Greece? We rarely get a glimpse into the life of children in ancient times as not many children's artefacts survive in the archaeological record. But we do know that how children entertained themselves in the past is not all that different to today and that their games can help to reveal information about their society.
In this active school holiday workshop kids will discover that some of their favourite schoolyard games have a surprisingly long history as they learn how to play the ancient Greek and Roman predecessors to games like tug of war hopscotch marbles and 'what's the time Mr Wolf?'
Along the way we'll explore how these games were first created what they were designed to teach ancient children and the broader cultural significance of games in the ancient world.
This kids' workshop is recommended for ages 7–14. Tickets include all materials and Museum general admission after the workshop.
