Major changes for the New Haven Green are now being proposed by the City of New Haven — changes that will impact historic features, bus routes and bus stops, accommodations for people with disabilities, trees and plantings, plazas, pedestrian and bike infrastructure, and on-street parking. The Green is the historic and symbolic heart of the city. Recreation, religious life, public institutions, businesses, transportation, human services, festivals, and political events all find their home and pride of place, on and around the Green. How we plan for changes in a historic and monumental place — one that serves so many people and different vital civic purposes — requires comprehensive thinking and an inclusive process. And it takes time.
The League invites you to take some time and participate in a community information fair to see up-to-date information about the Green, and to talk with key stakeholders — The Proprietors of the Green, the City of New Haven, people with knowledge about historic preservation, transportation, American with Disability Act planning, human services, civil rights, public transit, and urban forestry.
Strong solutions to planning goals emerge when we have access to good information and when we are given an opportunity to share ideas with each other.
So please come join the conversation!
At the event, you’ll be given a “passport” listing all the organizations participating, and encouraged to visit each group, have a conversation, and get your “passport" stamped. We want to hear your ideas and recommendations.
