About this Event
PARTY FOR PRE-ECLAMPSIA
My name is Angelica and I am a midwife currently raising money for the charity Action on Pre-Eclampsia - more about them in just a moment. I am also running the London Marathon for them in October. You can follow my training journey on my Instagram page here: https://instagram.com/angerunsamarathon?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
Or donate to my marathon effort on my Just Giving page here: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/angelica-efu
To help raise further funds I am organising 'PARTY FOR PRE-ECLAMPSIA' - a night out in Folkestone featuring:
LIVE MUSIC / DJS / RAFFLE / FOOD TRUCKS / MORE!
All proceeds will go towards this wonderful cause.
BANDS:
SKIES (Acoustic)
Handpicking elements of pop, rock & emo in equal measure, SKIES have started from the ground up. With tracks featuring on BBC Radio 1, Channel 4’s ‘Made in Chelsea’, ITV’s ’The Only Way is Essex’, ‘New Music Friday’ Spotify playlist and BBC Introducing, the SKIES sound has begun to reach exciting heights.
SAND AND STONE
A brother and sister duo from the seaside town Folkestone; singer-songwriters Abi and Tom have been performing together across the UK since 2010, playing at a variety of venues and festivals. They have showcased their original material at the Songwriters Masterclass event held at the Apple store in Covent Gardens and in 2018 made it through to the live stages of The Voice UK.
SPEAKERS:
PROFESSOR ANDREW SHENNAN OBE is Professor of Obstetrics at King’s College London, based at St. Thomas’ Hospital. He is clinical lead of the Maternal and Fetal Research Unit, and specialises in clinical trials in antenatal and intrapartum care. His research interests include interventions to prevent preterm birth, pre-eclampsia, encouragement of normal birth and the use of blood pressure monitoring.
He chaired the Department of Health Committee on Blood Pressure Monitoring in clinical practice, and sits on the relevant committees for the International Standardisation Organization (ISO) and the British Hypertension Society (BHS). He also advises the World Health Organisation (WHO) on perinatal research.
THE SERIOUS BIT
Pre-Eclampsia is the most common serious complication to occur during childbirth. Every year in the UK, between 6-8 women and 1,200 babies lose their lives to this condition. Globally, a woman loses her life every six seconds pre-eclampsia.
For 30 years, Action on Pre-Eclampsia (APEC) have been supporting and advising pregnant women, training midwives, and have supported research into finding a cure for pre-eclampsia.
One of APEC's core aims is to provide quality up to date and accessible education for all who look after pregnant women, giving them confidence to spot the signs of pre-eclampsia and deliver the very best care.
