WHY A BASKETBALL COURT?
Kaden’s Court is a fundraising initiative focused on constructing a much-needed community basketball court in Billings’ treasured Pioneer Park. This project is named in memory of Kaden Edinger. Standing at a lanky 6’4”, Kaden was known for his easy smile, witty sense of humor, charming approachability, and love of the great outdoors as well as all things basketball. He cherished being part of the team, but making new friends at a quick pick-up game brought him even greater joy. Kaden was an advocate for the underdog and had a remarkable resilience to adversity by simply reminding everyone, “it’ll be okay,” or “it’ll buff out”. Kaden also suffered from anxiety, and like so many, felt the crushing pressures of the world encompassing him. Tragically, at the age of 20 his life was cut short from an accidental fentanyl poisoning.
While promoting recreation and health, this court will also be a personal sanctuary where, like Kaden, one can practice alone or find common ground with people of all ages and backgrounds who come together for sportsmanship and friendship or simply have a good time watching or shooting hoops. It will also serve as a memorial to those in our community who may have dealt with or lost a loved one struggling with addiction and substance abuse.
Kaden’s Court will have a positive, tangible and lasting influence on our city for generations to come!
WHERE WILL THE BASKETBALL COURT GO?
Kaden's court will replace the recently removed softball field on the south end of Pioneer Park, just east of the creek. Because it complies with the Pioneer Park Master Plan, Kaden's Court will be shovel ready after approval from Billings City Council and the Montana Historical Society.
