Title: Partnering with Kinship Caregivers for Improved Child and Family Outcomes

Learning Outcomes

1. Identify and analyze current trends in kinship care practices and policies among the State and nationally within child welfare, including at least two opportunities and two challenges specific to kinship care.

2. Describe the inherent strengths and benefits of kinship care for children in out of home care, including cultural traditions and protective factors.

3. Identify and apply strategies relevant to the unique needs of kinship families including shared parenting, intergenerational trauma, and approaches that are based in a culturally responsive, value-based ethical framework.

4. Summarizes approaches for enhancing child and caregiver well-being across ecological systems, including strategies child welfare advocates can implement within their local communities.

5. Apply conversation starters to facilitate discussions on promoting kinship responsive supports through socially just, trauma-informed and culturally responsive kinship care models.
