Parthenia Viol Consort Presents Italia Mia Concert

Parthenia, New York’s premiere viol consort, will present Italia Mia, a concert on Thursday, February 5 @ 6:30 PM at Maison Française at Columbia University, 515 West 116th Street in Manhattan.

The program will feature works that Parthenia will begin recording the next day, including canzonas, dances, madrigals, and motets by Italian composers of the 16th century, such as Verdelot, Arcadelt, Andrea Gabrieli, Monteverdi and Tromboncino,  with guests soprano Sherezade Panthaki and lutenist Christopher Morrongiello. The ensemble will perform on 16th-century replica viols and lutes

Sherezade Panthaki, soprano, has forged ongoing musical collaborations with many of the world’s leading conductors including Nicholas McGegan, Masaaki Suzuki, Martin Haselböck, Stephen Stubbs, and Nicholas Kraemer. Born and raised in India, Ms. Panthaki holds graduate degrees with top honors from the Yale School of Music and the University of Illinois. Ms. Panthaki is highly sought after as a guest clinician and masterclass leader across the United States. She has taught voice to graduate music students at Yale and currently heads the Vocal program at Mount Holyoke College in Western Massachusetts. Visit her at https://www.sherezadepanthaki.com/.

Lutenist Christopher Morrongiello, a former British Marshall Scholar, is a graduate of the Mannes College of Music, Royal College of Music, and University of Oxford, where he earned a doctorate in historical musicology. As a recitalist, he has performed to critical acclaim throughout Europe and the United States. Dr. Morrongiello is a professor in music history at Hofstra University and directs the Hofstra Collegium Musicum. Parthenia is a quartet of viols which animates ancient and contemporary music. Parthenia is presented in concerts and festivals across America including Bargemusic, Music Before 1800, Maverick Concerts, The Rockport Chamber Music Festival, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Miller Theatre and the Yale Center for British Art, and in Europe at the Regensburg Tage Alter Musik. The ensemble produces its own concert series in NYC, collaborating regularly with the world's foremost early music specialists including Piffaro, Julianne Baird, Paul O'Dette, Blue Heron and ARTEK. Parthenia actively commissions and premieres works by today's composers including Eleonor Sandresky, Richard Einhorn, Phil Kline, Frances White, Max Lifchitz, Will Ayton, Nicholas Patterson and Kristin Norderval. Parthenia’s latest CD Nothing Proved, on the MSR Classics label, features music by Hildegard von Bingen, Frances White, Kristin Norderval, and Tawnie Olson.
