We invite you to join the Parkville Symphonic Band as we continue our 29th season with a spring concert tour around the world, featuring familiar Broadway, movie and opera themes. We begin in Chicago with a Sousa march paying tribute to the local women in the Belle of Chicago, then it’s off to Spain with Rossini and his Barber of Seville Overture, although the Italian style of the music betrays the then 24-year-old composer’s having never been to Spain. We return to the U.S.A with Hollywood’s vision of the Wild West in John Williams’ movie title music for The Cowboys, and then back to Europe with a delightful setting of old French folk songs In the Forest of the King. We conclude in the South Pacific with a medley of wonderful songs from Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Broadway musical of the same name.The concert will be presented April 7, at 3:00 p.m. in the Graham Tyler Memorial Chapel on the Park University campus in Parkville, Missouri. Admittance to the concert is free, with freewill donations accepted for the Parkville Police Community Assistance Fund.
The Parkville Police Community Assistance Fund was initially created by the Parkville Police Department as a Shop with a Cop event in December of 2010 to provide assistance for children and families in need during the Christmas season. Over the last decade, the program has expanded considerably and now includes a Back-to-School program providing school supplies for children as well as other assistance to families and seniors in the Parkville community that the police discover are in need.
